Throughout the first part of the book see read A LOT about Jewel, we receive most of the descriptions from Darl. Most of the things we hear about Jewel are not pleasant descriptions, even Dewey Dell says that he "doesn't care about anything". And then compared with Cash we have a description about a dedicated son who is taking all his time to make a coffin for his mother. Do you think that there is a deeper reason why the two brothers have such a deep-rooted rivalry? Do you think that since they are the two oldest (at least possibly) there is reason for "bad blood" between the two? Clearly both the sons care for Addie, both in very different ways: who do you think Addie favored the most and why?
