For this assignment, you are being asked to first research the story of the family members who came to America. Consider:
Where did they came from?
Where did they go?
Why did they come?
What were they seeking?
How did it turn out?
Place this research in conversation with Bercovitch’s 3 tenets of the Puritan errand: Migration, Discipline, Progress.
Choose the family member that you feel best exemplifies these tenets and compose three journal entries, each dated; told from the perspective of your chosen ancestor. Feel free to fill in the gaps and use creative license in order to tell the story. Each journal entry will represent one of the three tenets—the first migration, the second discipline, and the third progress. Keep in mind that these entries will likely be spaced out over many years. Try to capture a voice that feels authentic.
This assignment will be due Tuesday, October 4th. Please be sure that the assignment is typed.
